One of my dreams with my Welsh research is to see access to newspapers online. Perhaps this may be come a reality in my lifetime! The article below details what they are up to.
Digitizing Wales’ Treasures
Cambrian Index Online is a wonderful tool to use for Welsh newspaper articles, although don’t confuse it with the Cambrian News, which is a different publication.
Words can conjure up wonderful images.
This extract from the Western Australian Times, Thursday, 11 February, 1864 is a great example.
“A young lady from Aberystwith has been blown over the cliffs, but, thanks to her crinoline which acted again as a spanker boom sail, she alighted safely on the sands, after her aerial voyage.”
And for those of you who are interested I was searching for Welsh ancestors who moved to Australia using the following website: National Library of Australia – Australian Newspapers Beta
I really enjoy reading newspaper articles from the 1800′s for their colourful descriptions of events, people and places. I have a couple of death and wedding announcements, which are delightful to read for this reason.
