A young lady from Aberystwyth

Words can conjure up wonderful images.

This extract from the Western Australian Times, Thursday, 11 February, 1864 is a great example.

“A young lady from Aberystwith has been blown over the cliffs, but, thanks to her crinoline which acted again as a spanker boom sail, she alighted safely on the sands, after her aerial voyage.”

And for those of you who are interested I was searching for Welsh ancestors who moved to Australia using the following website: National Library of Australia – Australian Newspapers Beta

I really enjoy reading newspaper articles from the 1800′s for their colourful descriptions of events, people and places. I have a couple of death and wedding announcements, which are delightful to read for this reason.
