Our Stories, Our History

Welsh Jewish records

One of the courses I’m currently taking is on Non-Anglican records in the UK.  For this week’s homework assignment we were to do some research online for Jewish records and report on something we learned.  My report will be written about Welsh Jewish records, which is something I knew nothing about.  Happily, this research assignment  lead me to some new additions to the link library in the form of Jewish Cemetery records for a number of Welsh counties and locations of Jewish communities and congregations.

This list of Jewish Communities and Congregations in Wales at Jewish Communities and Records – UK was a great find, along with two sources for Jewish burials in Wales, one at the International Jewish Cemetery Project and the second at Cemetery Scribes.

Also of note is the JewishGen Family Finder website.

For more information on the history of Jewish communities in Wales, check out this great bibliography at

I hope this is of help to those of you who had Jewish ancestors who moved to Wales.  As always, if you know of any other sources like this, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
